The content plugin does support the comment count tag. When the JFBCContent plugin is enabled, you can configure it in JFBConnect > Social > 'Content Plugin - Comments' and 'Content Plugin - K2 Comments' tabs. If you put the 'Number of Comments' fields to 0, then Comments Count will be added to the articles instead of the Comments Box.
So you could do something like the following:
* In the Category views, set the Number of Comments to 0 so the Comments Count will be shown.
* In the Article/Item views, set the Number of Comments > 0 so the actual Comments Box will be shown.
