Hi, I've read this thread www.sourcecoast.com/forums/jfbconnect/jf...e-not-working#p32992
and if I understood well Facebook follow button works only with user profile and not with fan pages.

My site has a fan page too and I would like to let users follow it direrctly when they are in my site. Which way do you suggest?

Thank you

Best regards
Francesco

You can use either:
* The Facebook -> Like button and use the URL of your Fan page. This will show a single Like button for your page.
* The Facebook -> Like Box and use the URL of your Fan Page. This is a special widget specifically for Fan Pages that will let you show a Like button, user avatars who have Like'd the Page and the Admin stream for your Page.

I hope that helps!

Thank you Alex,

please help me to better understand because FB is sometimes a bit enigmatic. If I use the widget "like box" it works fine for like function, but if a user press like in the site and he goes in the fan page he will see "you like this page" but he can still choose "follow this page" because it seems he doesn't follow it yet.

About differences between like and follow I've found this post by FB Team www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=10152962180840608

They say "Liking a Page will add it to your list of Likes on your timeline. Following a Page means you'll see updates from that Page in your News Feed."

Is there a way using JFBConnect to let users follow the fan page using a JFBConnect widget?

Of course I can use a simple image with a link to the fan page so a user could decide to like, follow or do nothing directly on the fan page, but I'm learning your great extension and before looking for personal solutions I ask you if I can solve my issue using JFBConnect.

Thanks for everything
Best regards

Francesco

Hi, I just saw that using like box there also a link to the fan page, so it is very good and It means I don't have to create a personal solution to let users go directly on the fan page.

Now I only wish to know if it is it possible to choose to follow a fan page pressing a JFBConnect button on the site.

Thank you

Regards
Francesco

Francesco,
No, there is no way to "Follow" a Page from your site. The user must go to your page to do that. The reason is restrictions on how Facebook works, in general. Specifically, you can only Follow a Page *after* you have Like'd it first. Once you Like a Page, posts from that Page *may* show up in your news feed based on the your past engagement with that Page and overall relevance of the post to what you like in general.

If you follow the Page, then it means all the posts from that Page will show up in your news feed. It's obviously better (for you) if someone Follows your Page, but the user has to go out of their way to do so. Like'ing your page is the first step.

Personal profiles are different. You can follow a user (if that user has Follows enabled for their profile) without having to Friend the user.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex

Glad I could help explain. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:

Thanks,
Alex
