CIVICRM was created by amg99
Hi,
I just want to ask
  • if there's a way to integrate with CIVICRM or
  • if anyone have any idea or
  • if someone have created already a plugin for it.
Please share.

Thank you very much!

Initial ideas:

I'm thinking of using Joomla's Default User Profile plugin, But it appears that there's no JFBC plugin for that (Correct me if I'm wrong).
I would like to create a user profile plugin that JFBC will use when someone from FB registers/logs in.
Afterwards, I'm planning to create a joomla plugin for CIVICRM, utilizing its "hooks", to import records gathered by the User Profile plugin.

Any thoughts on these?

Thanks

Very sorry for not responding back to this sooner. Yes, you're correct that we don't currently have any plugins for importing Facebook data into CiviCRM. Of course JFBConnect does create 100% standard Joomla users, so anyone that registers with JFBConnect / Facebook will be able to be used by CiviCRM or any other Joomla extension without issue. Obviously though, importing profile data can be very helpful too.

I've honestly never used CiviCRM, so I don't know about the hooks it provides. While we keep intending to create a profile plugin for the User - Profile plugin that comes with Joomla, we've simply never had any requests for it. It actually surprises us a bit as well, but most people that want profiles seem to opt for more powerful solutions like JomSocial, Kunena, or Community Builder which also support avatars and more flexibility.

As for creating your own plugin, we'd definitely recommend checking out our JFBConnect Profile Plugin developer guide . That guide was created for the 4.0 version and hasn't been updated enough recently, but it's pretty accurate and should give you a good overview. Looking at other profile plugins may help as well.

If you do plan to create a User - Profile integration plugin, we can gladly help out with any questions you have. We'd help with any questions either way, but obviously, we'd like to get that plugin out as well.. so that may help push us a bit if you're already going to be working on something.

Once created, if there are hooks in CiviCRM to pull in that data, great! That should do what you're looking for, but again, I haven't used CiviCRM, so I can't guarantee anything beyond what you've told me.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Thanks for your response.

I've known about CIVICRM, I think, since 2006. But only started using it now given that it's more powerful and easier to use as compared to the old version.

If you can easily whip out a User - Profile plugin, may I request for that--even just an example that can be expanded as needed? As it may take me days to come up with one.

My thinking is like this:
The User - Profile Plugin should be able to save first, the basic info... and then other info that will need permission which the FB user granted.
The avatar / profile photo can be saved also and ready to be used if needed -- say, by another extension.

Basically, the User - Profile Plugin should be able to save basic/needed info and extended info where permission applies and is granted.

CIVICRM has the ability to sync Joomla users to civicrm contacts but I'm not sure if it also sync when a custom User Profile exist. (If it could that would be great. I'll check.)

If not, a civicrm plugin hook can be created to automatically, import details from the User Profile Plugin.

CIVICRM can create custom fields that can be combined together to create a custom profile.

If the FB details exist in the #__user_profiles table, it can be imported into the said custom profile.

amg,
I'm never going to say we can just whip out a plugin, or it would already be done :) There's always a ton of things for us to be working on that are highly requested. This actually isn't highly requested, but we do think it would be a good addition. Additionally, at the end of this week, we're presenting and attending the Joomla Day Chicago conference. I can tell you that we'll increase the priority of this plugin and shoot to have something out by the end of this month, but that's about all I can say. It likely won't be overly difficult to do, it's mainly just a matter of time, planning, and testing.

One thing that won't be possible is the storing of the user's avatar. Since the User - Profile plugin doesn't store avatars, we won't either. We also don't have a method to just dump the avatar into a directory somewhere on your site. While that is possible, it's something we'd really need to think about and plan for so that all user's won't be surprised if there's a random directory just filling up with avatars.

Hope that makes sense, and any feedback is definitely welcome!
Alex
