I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Facebook like button is working but where our Facebook box/fans in footer (whatever it's called) shows nothing. Also in the configuration section information shows the Application Name, Site URL, Site domain are showing correct. But the statistics are not showing any connected users. Shouldn't the face of the person who liked us on facebook show up in the box in the footer? Thanks for your help. Our site is Veterans Directory

We'll gladly help you get things setup however we can!

There's a few things I'm seeing about your page to point out. These all regard the Fanbox:
1) You look to have the JFBCFan module loading in the left sidebar. However, you didn't include the URL to your FB Page, so it's not showing at all.
2) The Fanbox at the bottom looks to be manually entered (which is fine, don't need to use JFBConnect to specifically enter that). This FanBox is set to show the stream from the Page (most recent posts), but there are none.. which is why you have a big blank area.
3) To show faces, when the stream is enabled, the minimum height you can use for the Fanbox is like 400px (or so). The Fanbox at the bottom is set to 260px. That's not enough to show both the stream and the faces, so all your seeing is the stream.. and there's no stream to show.. which is why it looks like that.

As for the statistics for connected users, that will show users that have logged into your site through Facebook and 'connected' to your site that way. It doesn't have anything to do with the amount of people that Like your website or Facebook Page. Your application (what is used to let people login to your site through Facebook) is not directly related to your Facebook Page at all. It's extremely confusing when you get started, we know, but, everything on your page looks right from my standpoint. I did just create an account through Facebook. I was able to log in. In your stats area should be at least 1 connected user (me). If you increase the height of the Fanbox, that should help show faces (which I just Like'd as well).

Hope that gets you started, but by all means, ask as many questions you want, and we'll help however we can!

Hi Alex, Thanks for your response! I removed the manual/ Custom fanbox because we didn't know we had steaming activated and don't know how to remove it. We used the (JFBCFan Easy-Tag)to set up that bottom box and can't see how we would make changes. I'm not really sure we want streaming of post since not much is going on right now anyways. So i'm fine with that one gone.

We moved the left fanbox position and that is now showing in the footer. It looks like its working fine! WOW! That was a piece of cake:) I feel like I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express lastnight:) Thanks for your help!

Is there anything else you reccomend?

No problem for the help, it's what we do. Very glad to hear you got the Fanbox thing going, and don't pull your hair out.. ask us for help. That's what your subscription is for, and we've already pulled our hair out trying to figure this stuff so you don't have too.

Overall, it's a good looking site. Clear message, easy listings. Hopefully, you can get the message out and let others know. Another veterans site that uses JFBConnect is vetawarenesscoalition.com/ Not sure, but may want to get in touch for cross-promotion. I know there's lots of veterans sites out there, so not that you need to affiliate with other Joomla ones, but thought you should know. On that site, they also link to a VOSB directory as well (www.veteranownedbusiness.com/). Not sure if collaboration or more, similar, sites are better to get the word out.. but worth knowing about other sites shooting for the same goal.

Back to your page, the best other integration feature from JFBConnect is showing your site (or just the directory, or your mission page) in your Facebook Page. This is a good way to let others know what you're goals and purpose are when they visit your FB Page. It can be done with a Joomla article, and can also help get you more Likes to your FB Page. Once you have more Likes, when you do post content to that page, it will go to all those users, which is good for further (free) promotion. For more about the Facebook Page integration, see the link below. You will need an SSL certificate for it to work though:
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/facebook-page-canvas-setup

Anyways, hope that helps, but if you have any ideas you want to bounce off us (Facebook specific, or even just Joomla related), we're pretty friendly and will give our opinions or thoughts on just about anything :)

Best of luck,
Alex

Hair what Hair? Just joking you guys are the best! I'm definately glad to have found you guys. I will leave a very well deserved top rating for your products!

Thanks for those links!! I havbe talked to the VOSB Directory mentioned a couple of years ago. Maybe I should contact them again. I didn't know about that association. Thanks

As for your other comments...

Back to your page, the best other integration feature from JFBConnect is showing your site (or just the directory, or your mission page) in your Facebook Page.

I'l have to look into this. I'll read up on it. At this time I don't get it but as I learn more I'm sure I'l have more questions:) I'm working on a design for the facebook fanpage from fiverr.

Are you still doing "PayToUpgrade"? I saw this linked from Mosets.

Glad we're helping! :)

Contacting others in your field, especially if they're friendly competitors, is a good thing. Awareness is your ultimate goal, not necessarily traffic or profits (from what I can tell), so working together or at least communicating is usually beneficial in that situation.

Yeah, Page integration is just another step. If you get a design, you can simply put it into a Joomla article and start from there.. or create a whole separate Joomla template to user around it. There are options, and when you get there, just let us know how we can help.

PayToUpgrade is no more. We discontinued it about 6 months ago. It didn't really fit the needs of what users were looking for, and caused more confusion than it was worth for both us and the end users. We wanted a 'simple' payment extension, but realized quickly that simple just isn't possible.. and we didn't want to make yet-another-complex payment extension.. that's what we were trying to solve in the first place!

Finally, we'd love a review on the Joomla Extension Directory. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated! Thanks for the offer!

Best of luck,
Alex

Hi Alex, Ive got a couple of good ones for you.

Does the "Login with Facebook" actually also log you into the Joomla site? So if this was a yes would that mean that when someone joins the directory they will be able to edit their content etc..

Most of the listings have been prepopulated and the company hasn't claimed their listing yet. One example we have made ourselves an account and made it featured. But can't figure out how I would log in. This example may not be a good one becasue we made it in the back end admin via upload. It has no password, and the email address does not have a facebook account. But actually that may be how many of the listing are. How would I get the companies their login info so they could claim a listing and choose to be featured?

BTW.. I think I'm going to be using PaymentsPlus for the upgrade. Maybe they would set this up to make sure it's working properly. They have the extra option to set it up turnkey.

saluteveterans,
Yes, "Login with Facebook" logs you into Joomla. If the user hasn't already connected their FB account to a Joomla user, JFBConnect will either automatically create a new Joomla user for them or bring them to a page where they can give a username password to create a new account. The mode is determined from the "User Creation" setting in JFBConnect.

There's also another setting called "Automatically map user's by email" where, if there is a Joomla user on the site with the same email address as the Facebook user, the two accounts will be linked automatically. I'm not sure how it would work with PaymentsPlus, but JFBConnect does create standard Joomla users, so they should have a lot of flexibility there.

Good luck,
Alex

Hopefully, that gives you some ideas. You may just create the user for your listing people, use their email address, and then tell them to login with their Facebook account. It will automatically do the association and they can go from there.

If you have any other questions though, just let us know.

Hi Alex,

OK to try and figure this out I added a listing in my directory with my email that I use for Facebook and attempted to login to the site. When I attempted to login I got two messages. First message says my facebook account was now connected. The second message I got said "Login denied! Your account has either been blocked or you have not activated it yet." I do not know what to do now. I did not recieve an email activation.
