Hi,

I have just bought the JFBConnect and would like to install it. Unfortunately my hosting does not allow me to change the chmod to 777 (since it's Windows Hosting, it's really hard to change the permission).

Usually what I do is putting all the files, and then hit the Discover Button in Extension Manager.
However this time, it is a little bit different, because all the components seem different.

Any suggestion?

Sincerely

Stephanus,
We'd never recommend 777 even on a Linux system. I'd really recommend fixing your permission issues, as Facebook needs to be able to write and read from the filesystem during normal operation (downloading avatars, etc). If you can't install it, I think you'll run into other issues once you manually install it. Have you tried the enabling the FTP system within Joomla and using that to install? It may help.

If you need to install manually, you can try to unpack the component to it's administrator and component directories. Then, in the /administrator/components/com_jfbconnect/packages directory, you'll find 4 more files (3 plugins and a module) that will need to be unzipped and moved to their proper directories. After you do a discover, all 5 things should install properly. Again though, I think you may run into some other problems after that. Hopefully not.

Should you need anything else, just let us know,
Alex

Hi Alex,

This is what I have done so far. I installed JFBConnect normally in my localhost. And then I copied all the JFBConnect needed files to the server based on localhost. After that I install it normally, giving me 4 things to be installed successfully. The one that has error is module, so I manually install it using the Discover. There's an error about unable to create Admin menu or something. By the way I'm using Joomla 1.6.3.

And it does not appear in Plugin Manager, but I can see in Extension manager > Manage

Sincerely,
Stephanus

Dear Alex,

One last thing.. The only problem that I had at the moment is "Error building Admin Menus" when I install the Component.
All the others were perfect up to now, except the Admin menus.

Do u have any solution for this?

Best regards,
Stephanus

Alright, I got the solution from this link: www.sourcecoast.com/forums/jfbconnect/jf...building-admin-menus

Just to let you know that I use the latest JFBConnect that available, and Joomla v1.6.3

Hope you can fix this in the future :)

Best regards,
Stephanus

Stephanus,
The issue is likely in Joomla 1.6.3 itself. That release is over 6 months old, and the 1.6 series is no longer supported by Joomla itself. There were 2 more point releases (up to 1.6.5) and then 3 1.7 releases since then (1.7.2 is the latest). Please consider upgrading to the latest Joomla. The thread you linked to is 6 months old as well, and we haven't heard of that problem since.. which points, in my opinion, to a Joomla issue, not a JFBConnect one.

Hope that helps,
Alex
