Is it possible to add a option to pull the open graph description tag from a articles meta description. so that I can easily have different descriptions for individual article likes pulled from a controllable source. instead of writing tags each time

Sean,
That should already be occuring. If Open Graph is enabled, and there's no description or title set, either through the Open Graph defaults page or through a {JFBCGraph description=xxx} tag, JFBConnect will use whatever the meta title or description tags are.

It works that way for all pages, not just articles.

If you're not seeing that behavior, let us know.

Hi all, I'm trying to use both {JFBCGraph description=xxx} tag or description tags but it still doesn't work in any way.. just worked the first time I used the JFBC Graph override in an article...
I dont know why but the value now is present in any pages! I used the fb debugger to refresh fb cache.. but nothing, is still present! even I deleted from article... cache clean of course... any suggestion?

Nikema,
I'm unsure what you mean. When you say "but the value now is present in any pages! " What value is present in the pages? Is it not the correct value? Can you post exactly what you've entered into an article's text, and post the URL for that page, so we can take a look?

Finally, just to make sure, if you have an Admin Key set in the Social Configuration -> Misc tab, make sure you're also adding that key to the tag.

Thanks,
Alex

Thx Alex for the answer. You right, yesterday I was too tired to be clear ;-)
I mean that I tested the use of Page Overrides with the Open Graph Tag into two articles, but All the pages have got the same description that I used into the first article... similar as I put a default into the open graph Tab in Social and all the description was the same... even if I used the FB debugger to refresh fb cache and when I deleted the tag into the first article...
I didn't use any Admin key, Is it mandatory for the page overrides?

After the post I deleted both the two tags and writed the two different description directly into the joomla meta tag into the differentt article, This morning I saw that now it works ... I'll try again to use the tags in the articles because I need it for else, but I've got an alternative solution ..
first article: piacehost.it/LRI/lri3/index.php?option=c...39:social&Itemid=263
second article: piacehost.it/LRI/lri3/index.php?option=c...-unaliena&Itemid=280

BTW could I use the overrides tag for a canonical url different that the actual url?
I'll migrate the site to a SEF urls, using sh404 or ACEsef, but the comments disapear! so I want the fb find the old url (with the original comments) without using any strange configuration in SEF component

thanks for your attention

You only need to use the admin key if you have it set. It's there simply to prevent users from being able to add those tags to your site in forum posts, etc. If you're not seeing the {JFBCGraph } tag on the page itself, it means that JFBConnect is properly translating the tag, so don't worry about the admin key.

If you don't specify the {JFBCGraph .. } tags for title and description, JFBConnect will automatically use the Joomla meta title and description tags for that page. That way, you don't have to set it twice if you don't want.. but gives you flexibility to set a different title/description (if you want) for Facebook wall posts.

As for the canonical URL, yup, you should be able to do that. I'm not sure what will happen if your SEF component then redirects back to the 'real' URL, so you'll have to test. The {JFBCGraph } tag can definitely be used to set the URL property though however you want.

Hope that all helps!
Alex
