Hello,

my client is having big problems with displaying images properly when links to his articles are posted on Facebook wall. Running through Lint it turns out there is no meta property="og:image" tag generated in source of his pages, although it is turned on in JFBC settings.

However, we did notice there is a tag meta name=image contents=http://www.domain.com generated in his articles, it's apart from other OG tags and as you can see it's not Opengraph tag.

Last problem, if there is no image defined through K2's image facility but instead it's added through usual Joomla WYSIWYG editor, then this image meta tag points to domain. If we add image through K2, then meta tag shows location to image, but Lint is still reporting warning because it's not proper OG tag.

And finally, he is using K2 and J1.7 with JFBC 3.4.1.

Thank you in advance for your help and I hope my english is understandable.

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
We'll gladly help however we can. The first things we'd recommend though are upgrading to v4.0.3, the most recent JFBConnect. If you want to remain on v3.x, we can help there too. However, please post (or have your client post) from the account that you purchased a subscription to JFBConnect from. Priority support is for active subscribers only.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex, thanks a lot. I have informed my client of your suggestions and he will either post from his account or we can provide some other kind of "evidence" of purchase. Until then, thank you for your replies.

best regards,
Tom

Hello Alex, this is Tom again posting from client's account. I have yet to receive response on whether we will upgrade JFBC to latest version, but in the meantime do you have any idea why the above problem is occuring?

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
Really not sure, in all honesty. Can you link (or Private Message us) a link to a page that has this issue?

Currently, the Open Graph image settings for K2 will only automatically pull the image that inserted into the article contents, it won't pull the image that's specifically set for the item in "Image" tab. That's something we're looking on, but not available even in 4.0.3. However, it sounds like when you use the WYSIWYG editor to add an image, the og:image tag is just the domain (no image). Is that correct?

Another thing to try is manually adding the image with the following tag in the article's contents:
{JFBCGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg}

Hope that helps give some ideas, but again, if you can get me a URL to see the problem with, that may help me come up with other ideas.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

I sent you URL to site in question via PM.

Regarding your questions and suggestions. Current situation, with image added in article, is as following:
- no og:image tag
- meta name="image" tag is present and it contains just domain URL

If we add image through K2's image tab then the following happens:
- still no og:image tag
- meta name="image" tag now contains image location

We will probably update our JFBC installation tomorrow and we'll see if that brings any changes. I will also test by manually adding {JFBC} tag.

Many thanks for your help.

best regards,
Tom

Problem solved by installing latest version (4.0.3) of JFBC for Joomla 1.7. Image tag (og:image) is displayed along with rest of Open graph tags and Lint is reading our images properly. I believe once Facebook refreshes it's cache we should start seeing images in fresh Wall posts.

Thanks for your help and assistance.

best regards,
Tom

Tom,
Great to hear you got it going. Facebook refreshes it's cache about every 24-72 hours. When you use the Lint tool, that refreshes the cache immediately for the page you try.. so if there are any 'key' pages, you can force it that way.

Should you need anything else, just let us know.. and good luck with your site!
