I'm about to go off-line, so I just wanted to stress what seems really significant to me...

Login works perfectly on the front end if I login with an admin account.
Login totally fails on the front end with the "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" page if I login with a Registered account.

Very odd.

Ok.. can see what you're saying. I know you said you were going off, but if still around, can you upgrade the account I just created so we can get into the admin area.

Not sure what's happening on your site, but assuming it's related. Also, if you've updated anything on the site lately (extension-wise), let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Well...some new info. Now I don't really think it is a JFBC Login problem. (Alzander...I've sent you the requested info. If you happen to take a look and see anything that might help, I'd still really appreciate it...heheh. If you login to the front end now, you'll go to a different page and...I believe...login sucessfully.) Here's the update:

Like I said earlier, looking at the back end, you can see that the "failed" login is successful. But the login results in an error page. To circumvent this, I changed my home page to a different page. With the home page changed, the login works fine. And now that I can access the site after logging in, I can see that going to certain pages generates the error message...not just logging in.

I'll still be exploring to see if I can figure out what is going on, but I'd still appreciate a reply if anybody has any thoughts. :)

All,
The issue with Facebook appears to be resolved now and you should be able to re-enable avatar imports. A regional Akamai server went down, which is the CDN that caches Facebook's profile pictures for speedy delivery. While it took about 2+ hours to fix, it's the first time (of this scale) that profile images haven't been available in 3 years of our development for Facebook... so, not terribly common (but certainly not fun).

We will be putting out updates for the JomSocial plugin and for JFBConnect (if necessary) to detect and prevent bad images in the future.. but it's not our #1 priority now. Simply because of the rarity of the issue, and that we've released quite a few versions recently, and don't try to put out point-releases unless it's urgent. If you disagree with the above, definitely let us know.

Griz,
I just got into your admin area and deleted my account so that I could re-register. Like you said, things worked whether I logged in through Facebook or through the Joomla login area of JFBCLogin. I'm not sure how you changed the login redirection so that it was 'broke', so I couldn't recreate the problem. If you want to let me know how to configure it, we can gladly debug it.

One thing we did get a report of (yesterday in fact) is that if you set the login redirection to a "Registered" menu item, there are certain site configurations where this can cause issues.. so if the menu was Registered, that may explain things.

Finally, and unrelated, in your Plugin manager, there are about 40 items that don't have a 'group'. I'm assuming this is because you migrated from Joomla 1.5, but haven't seen that before. My guess is that none of those plugins are ever being triggered since they aren't part of a group and should be disabled and/or uninstalled, just for good measure (some are duplicates of things properly in groups). Just something to look into, but always make a backup first.

Hope that helps, but definitely let us know if you run into any other issues!

Thanks for the info...could I get a little clarification regarding your observation below? When you say the plugins are not in a group...do you mean the ones that do not have a "Type" listed? Or is it something else?

Yes.. many of the plugins didn't have a type like User, System, Content, etc. Without a type, I don't think Joomla can call those plugins at all, so they aren't doing anything. Basically, in an extension, we have to say "Ok Joomla, load all the system plugins, then call this function". I don't think there's a way load a non-named type, so I think those are just useless plugins on your site.

Again, don't think it's a problem, but it's a bit confusing, and you may also think that one of those is doing something.. when in reality, it's not actually functioning. Hope that makes sense, but if you have other questions, just let us know!

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review on the Joomla Extension Directory for JFBConnect, or our support. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated!
