The overhaul is in process now, actually. However, it will only be for making the module cleaner and easier to modify the template. We won't be adding fancy Javascript to it, as there are plenty of other extensions out there meant to take a standard module (like JFBCLogin) and put it into a pop-up.
JFBCLogin works great with RokBox from RocketTheme (free), and is used on many sites. There is one modification that you must make to the template to make it work in the pop-up though, as described below:
