New at this so please forgive me...

Is there a plugin which will stop spammers / bots logging in through the regular login? Can their email addresses / ips be authenticated?

Thanks

Motty

Adam,
No problem! We're here to help however we can. Obviously, that question is outside of JFBConnect, but when we know an answer, we love to give it.

For your case, what we'd highly, highly recommend (and use on this site) is Registration Validator. There are 2 versions. We use version 2 which is only like $20-30 and totally worth it. Version 1 is free, and I think has similar features, but I honestly never tried the first version. You can learn more about Reg Validator from the JED links below:
Reg Validator
Reg Validator 2 (pro)

One thing to note.. the dev seems to have gone on hiatus and hasn't made any updates in a long time. Since it uses all external services to check user IPs and email addresses, that's ok because as long as those services don't change, things still work. The version we have from over 2 years ago still blocks over 500 bogus registrations a day and lets very few 'baddies' through. However, there isn't a Joomla v2.5 version available. There are other plugins which we've looked at that supposedly have similar abilities, but we haven't tested them yet.

The main alternative that works for J1.5 and J2.5 is extensions.joomla.org/extensions/access-...pam-protection/14027 . It's free, but again, I've simply never tested it.

Hope that all helps you get started!
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for your response. It seems to be perfectly. I had previously tried to use a captcha but this is much more user friendly.

Thanks again

Adam
