developing facebook app that doubles as connect app

does anybody have experience with this? i find it tricky and can't find any good tutorials.

the idea is that i want one application that facebook users can use (preferably in an FMBL canvas), and joomla users can also use it as a regular component on my own site.

i made a special facebook template for joomla, and I can auto-switch to that template when i see that the page requests comes from facebook, so that's ok.

my problem is that i don't know which functions to use to work with the facebook API. it would be handy if i could use the jfbc functions for user functions, but do they make sense in the context of an FBML canvas page?

i hope someone can share some hints or experiences with this...
