Topic-icon Fanpage module has different total of "likes" than our Facebook page

I assumed the Fan module pulled the total number of likes from Facebook but when I compare the numbers I have more "likes" on my Facebook page and appear in the total on the Fan module. Any particular reason why that would happen?

Thanks!

If it's off by 1, yes. The reason is that the Fan module shows the total number of Likes, including yourself. The Fan Page itself will show the total number of likes, *not* including your own (so it will be one less than the Fan Module).

If it's drastically different than that, let us know,
Alex

I just upgraded to the latest release hoping that might fix it. Still have a count issue and now I have a new one. I have modified the YooLogin module and added the "Login with Facebook" link. Worked fine on all pages in the site including the JomSocial home page. Now it works on all pages EXCEPT JomSocial. Any idea what might be wrong?

Site is: www.barkleyandpaws.com
UPDATE: I found the problem ... I had the popup enabled (I really like that) but for some reason there is a conflict on the JomSocial page - probably due to the custom JomSocial template I'm using.

Ahhh. I see the problem. A Like button is for a specific URL. The Like button you're using on your home page is for your home page (www.barkleyandpaws.com). Your Facebook Page is at www.facebook.com/barkleyandpaws.

Those are two separate pages, in Facebook's eyes, and each has their own unique Like count. While they are similar, that's just coincidence. There's no guarantee that the 122 that have Like'd your home page have also liked your FB Page.

You can update the Like button to use a URL of your Facebook Page, if you want. You can't have the Like button on your Facebook Page point to any other page on your site though.

Hope that explains,
Alex

Thanks! Well I guess if I would have done it right we would be over 250 likes by now. At least now it's all synced. Thanks again for the quick replies and support!

Mark,
Sorry for the confusion, but glad you got it going. Facebook is never as straightforward as people would like :)

Best of luck with your site,
Alex

Thanks! Are you using javascript for the login notification pop-up? I would really like to get that working and for some reason on all my JomSocial pages it fails and the person is never logged in. I'm trying to trouble shoot the issue...

Thanks!

Yes, it uses Javascript / Mootools. Specifically, the mootools.js and modal.js files (which are a part of Joomla).

Not sure what the issue is on your JomSocial page. We didn't test the popup with every extension and configuration, but if you can enable the popup and clear your Joomla caches, we'll gladly take a look.

Also, it looks like you have something that's optimizing/minimizing things on your site. Can you disable that temporarily as well to help us debug quicker?

Thanks,
Alex
