I have tried to make my web site fit to its full width but I cannot get it to work. I have checked and re-checked settings. In the JFBConnect canvas tab, the Canvas URL and secure canvas URL both say not set but I can get the canvas app to work by creating a template to fit the facebook window and duplicating all my pages to create a second site.
I'm wondering if it is because of my template that it won't display my normal site to full width? It was created with Artisteer. Has anyone else had problems displaying their web site full size using the Facebook canvas?
Thanks

David J

David,
It's strange that the Canvas URL and Secure Canvas URL are showing as not set. In the Overview area of JFBConnect, are the Site URL and Domain coming through?

As for the actual issue, can you link to your home page and App page (apps.facebook.com/???) so we can take a look at exactly what it looks like. There's so many possible settings that it's easiest for us to actually see what's wrong before diagnosing things.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex
OK I have discovered that I did not have the app on facebook filled in. So in JFBConnect the canvas url and secure canvas url are now shown.

If I look at: apps.facebook.com/domaine-du-piol/
the site displays correctly.
But is I click on the link to the site on my page: www.facebook.com/StPaulDeVenceFrance
It comes in at a fixed width, not to the full width of the site (about 1000 pixels). Basically the same size as the facebook timline page.
I have set the canvas settings in advanced as fluid.

Hi Alex
I have just visited your facebook page and when I click on your web site tab I get the same thing. Your site is sitting in an iFrame that is the same width of the timeline so your site is not displaying in full width.
Changing the width in the page tab width to narrow or wide does make a difference.

David,
Yeah, our Page Tab on the SourceCoast page is cutoff too. We're in a transition right now to a new template that will fit the width there, and plan to have it fixed over the next week or so.

Unfortunately, the issue you're having is that the Canvas view (apps.facebook.com) is treated differently than the Page Tab view. This is done by Facebook, and not something we can change. The Canvas views have the option for a fixed width, or fluid, as you know. The Page Tabs only have options for widths of 520px or 810px. There is now way to 'grow' beyond the 810px width requirement for Page Tabs. The 810 width was actually just introduced with the timeline. Previously, all Page Tabs had to be 520px, which was severely limiting.

The width restrictions are one of the main reasons that JFBConnect has the option to force the use of a specific template for either the Canvas or Page Tab views. Unfortunately, you'll need to use a template with a width of 810px, or modify your current template to accomodate that size.

Hope that all makes sense. We wish the Page Tab views had the same 'fluid width' option as well, but since there are 2 sidebars on Page Tab, that's not easily possible.

Hi Alex
yes that makes sense. Makes me wonder why you would want to use the canvas option as it is much better to have a link to your site as a page tab. A bit of fiddling to make it fit but with the option of just having to make a template and choosing that template for display is no drama. Once done it works well.

Thanks for your help
