Install problem was created by tsacon
I did download latest version of the JFBConnect to install it. Installation stops to error where it describes that installation file is not available.
I studied the XML a bit and discovered that in the install directory there was file called install.php and in the admin directory jfbconnect.install.php After little re-naming the installation was run Ok.
How could I verify the installation is Ok? After installing JFBCLike I was trying it. I did enable it from the module selection. Placing it to proper position and went to see how does it look like. For some reason my web pages stopped to load completely.
I did the same test for an other site and the same problem.
Is there something I should do prior using jfbclike or should it work immediately?

Regards,

Timo

Timo,
You shouldn't mess with the installer package at all. There isn't a way to verify the installation if you've changed how the install process should work. The install.php file is only referenced in the Joomla 2.5 version, not the Joomla 1.5 version.

Do you know what the error was when you tried to install? That's what we'd need to help you determine the problem and figure out how to proceed. To make sure everything is right, you should do an install with the original package you download from us.. and we can help you make sure that works for your site.

Let us know what the error is and let us know that you've verified you're installing the Joomla 1.5 version for your site, and then we'll let you know the best way to proceed.

Thanks,
Alex

Ok... more information for you.

The zip packet I did download was JFBConnect-4.1.2-Joomla15_20120131_unzip_first

I did unzip packet and then I was trying to install it with Extension manager in Joomla. I used Upload file / install option which works Ok for social plugins.

The Error message I did recieve was

* JInstaller::install: File '/www/t/r/www.xxx.xxx/tmp/install_4f30232917b72/install/jfbconnect.install.php' does not exist.
* Component Install: Could not copy PHP install file.

Install Component Error

So to me It seems that there is not correct information in the XML which describes installation packet.

Joomla version I'm running is 1.5.10

So what to do next?

Regards,

Timo

Hey Timo,

tsacon wrote: Joomla version I'm running is 1.5.10

firstly I would strongly recommend upgrading to the latest Joomla!1.5.x (1.5.25 the time this was written).

Please check you directory permissions, specially the tmp directory.

Let us know if that solved your installation issue.

I know there are newer versions available... have to figure time to make upgrade...

Installation problem...

Directory permissions are 0755 and site is on unix server.

I have also tried to copy unzipped installation package to server tmp directory but I do get the very same error message.

I also tried to install social modules and all of them installed without problems so to me there are some problems with the com_jfbconnect_j1.5_v4.1.2.zip package that comes in the latest download package

Timo

Hello Timo,
could you please show us a screenshot of the Help -> System Info -> Directory Permissions on your Joomla installation? if not, please ensure all directories are Writable.

Also, for testing purposes, do you have an option to install a fresh new Joomla!1.5.25 installation (maybe on a sub-domain or sub-directory), and try the latest installation of JFBC?

I have attached screenshots from filezilla which I use to manage my site. All the directories are writable for owner. I also tested it by changing them writable for everyone but it did not help so changed them back to original.

755 as code means Owner has Read Write Execute, Group has Read and Execute and Public has Read and Execute

To my understanding the XML file which is included in the installation packet has problem. It points to the file which does NOT EXIST in the delivery packet and that's why the installer can not copy file to proper location.

Right at the moment I don't have time to test clean installation, but as I said earlier all the social modules installed from the same delivery packet without any problems so I don't see any reason why my setup would be not correctly parametrized,

Timo

Timo,
The issue is definitely being caused by the version of Joomla you're on. We generally only support version 1.5.15 and above, which itself is over a year old. 1.5.10 is over two years old. In addition to all the security issues that have been fixed in that timeframe, there was an installer bug specific to 1.5.10 that was fix a long time ago:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker...racker_item_id=15701

The issue you describe is caused by the bug posted above. You'll need to upgrade to fix it as it's a bug with Joomla's installer in that version. The installer package is correct and the file is there. The modules install much easier because they are no where near as complex as the component and don't require a separate install.php file to handle the installation process.

Hope that explains, but if you need more help, please let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Timo,
usually upgrading Joomla inside the same development tree (i.e from 1.5.10 to 1.5.25) should cause any issue, but we suggest you simply backup you current website before doing any attempt to upgrade.

Please do let us know after a successful upgrade if that solved the installation problem.
