I've successfully set up a couple Facebook apps, very simple one, then in JFBConnect configuration edited "Application as Page Tab" and "Canvas App". Seems good to me, this on www.unbridledrider.com.

Where this falls apart is in figuring out how to get a link/tab to display on Facebook where you can select the App, I read this passage, "When your Facebook application and JFBConnect are configured properly, you will see a link to your Application's profile page at the top of the Page Tab window. Click this link to view your application. Once there, at the bottom of the left sidebar, click the "Add to My Page" link. A pop-up will let you select what Facebook Page you want to add it to. Once added, you'll be able to see the new Tab on your Facebook Page." but for the life of me cannot sort out how/where to do this.

It's not very clear in Facebook documentation how to add/edit this tabs. What I think we want is to have "Unbridled Rider Shop" as one tab, iwill eventually point to unbridledrider.com/shop and the one configured through JFBConnect to the article ID.

Where have I gone south?

Second question, is there a way to configure my profile such that I receive a copy of all posts to this forum?

Bob,
2nd question first. At the top of each forum, there's a "Post Tools" or "Forum Tools" link. If you hover over that, there are options for "Subscribe" or "Subscribe to this forum". I honestly wouldn't recommend subscribing to the whole Joomla 1.5 forum, unless you're really curious, but feel free :) You're always welcome to pitch in or learn more.

As for your question, there are 2 separate ways to have your website shown within Facebook: Canvas and Page Tab. They are different altogether. From what you read, it sounds like we need to update our Page Tab guide. In JFBConnect now, when you're in the Page Tab configuration area, there should be some text like:
To add it to your Facebook Page, Click Here.
That will only show if your Page Tab seems to be configured properly. In 4.1, this was changed due to some changes in Facebook, and our Guide still seems to reference the 'old' way. When you click that "Click Here" link, you should be redirected to Facebook, where it will ask which Facebook Page you want to add your application to. Once done, on the left hand column in your Page, you'll have a new item. When clicked, it will show the Facebook Page Tab URL that's configured in your Application (or the Reveal Page ID if that's configured in JFBConnect).

Hope that helps explain, but if my explanation has gone south, let me know :D

Bob,
In your Facebook Application, in the "Advanced" settings area, under migrations, there is a setting for "iframe Page Tab:". Make sure that's enabled and your issue should be fixed.

If not, let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Well that did make a difference. However, that's not the ultimate goal now that I see the page. I don't want to show the entire site on Facebook. I like what you did on this page, www.facebook.com/SourceCoast. It fits and it's appealing. Over...

Bob,
In the Page Tab area of JFBConnect, you can select a different template. This can allow you to create a whole specific template for the 560px width of a Facebook Tab as well as removing (or adding) module positions so that you only show what you want on the Facebook Tab.

Another thing you can do is set the Page Tab URL (in your application) to something like: index.php?option=com_contnet&view=article&id=12&tmpl=component
The tmpl=component variable will show just the component's output, and not the rest of your template. If a user clicks a link there, it will go back to your full template, so that's only good if you have just one page you want to show in your Page Tab.. which may be the case.

Hope that helps get you started,
Alex

Okay, now visit: www.facebook.com/UnbridledRider . I need to massage the page a little but it's now whistling Dixie. The underlying problem amongst all this madness is that there are so many facets to Facebook as well as JFBConnect that you almost need red lines painted on the ceiling to guide you to the right office. Very skilled technical people know how to navigate through rhetoric. Not so skilled, good luck.

Okay, I have a couple more questions.

I don't need to do this now, but on your facebook.com/SourceCoast page it says that a different page can or is delivered depending on whether the page is liked. Point me to the relevant FAQ.

Question 2, more FB that JFBC - I set up another FB app at apps.facebook.com/233823273365241/ . When I go into the properties, unlike the working app, on the Edit page, in the left nav column there is no "View App Profile Page" link. And of course when you go to facebook.com/unbridledrider there is no menu item in the left column. It's not obvious how to make that happen.

Bob,
Facebook is definitely complicated. The important thing to know is that there isn't one right way to do it. We'll gladly give advice how where we can, but there isn't a magic bullet to make things work.

1) For the different page to show if a user doesn't Like your FB page, see the description for the "Reveal Page Article ID" setting in the Page configuration area below:
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/facebook-page-canvas-setup
Basically, create the article you'd like displayed (images, text, etc) and set that ID. JFBConnect will take care of the rest.

2) If you created the application after January 1st, it no longer has an Application Page. That's where we used to recommend you go, where in the left-hand column, you'd see the "Add to Page" link. Now, in JFBConnect v4.1.1, there's a link at the top of the Page Tab configuration area that says "Add to Page". You must use that link.

That process is also described at the very bottom of the guide mentioned above.

Hope that explains!
Alex
