Just want to let you know we were able to recreate the problem you mention on your site in IE8. We had to dust off the WinXP computer, so it took some extra time. When we submit with no fields filled in, the top 3 fields (username, password, verify password) are marked red, but a Javascript error pops up coming from the Mootools Javascript file (from Mootools Upgrade plugin).

Can you let us know:
* What version of JomSocial are you using?
* What version of Joomla are you using?
* If you would be willing to test something, please get to that login/register page and then add "&template=system" to the URL. Reload the page and not much will be there except the forms. Then, disable the Mootools Upgrade plugin. Reload the page. It should still look minimal. Try to submit with no fields filled in, and let us know what happens.

The next step is to try to recreate this on our systems and see if it's specific to your site or not. We'll let you know what we find, but the information from the first 2 questions will be necessary for us to really narrow things down.

Thanks,
Alex

Whew, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We've been doing a bit of investigation, and think we've narrowed it down. Unfortunately, it seems to be an issue with Joomla itself, IE6-8 (but not IE9) and the Mootools Upgrade plugin. Basically, form validation fails with this combination.

We can't find other reports of this problem (are still looking), but you can test yourself and please let us know if you can recreate it. You'll need to go to the standard Joomla registration page at:
findsbook.com/index.php?option=com_user&task=register
However, your site appears to have a redirect setup to always go to the JomSocial registration. You'll need to disable that redirect (to test). Once you get to the standard Joomla registration page, try to just hit submit. For us (and we've tested on many sites), the fields turn red, but the form still submits. JFBConnect doesn't alter the normal Joomla registration at all, so if you see the issue there, it's not caused by JFBConnect at all.

We use the same validation scheme as Joomla, and in this particular configuration (IE6/7/8, Mootools Upgrade, Form Validation), it looks to be bugged. We are still investigating and plan to do more testing. If we find a solution, we'll gladly let you know what it is (and report it back to Joomla). We're not familiar with the validation Javascript code, so not sure we'll find the solution, but definitely want to. If we can't find something, we'll report it as a bug to Joomla.

Either way, please test and let us know what you find, and we'll definitely keep you posted as well.

Thanks,
Alex

We don't have any more updates right now. I've done a bit of research and this is not a reported bug with Joomla that we can find. Have you tested like we mentioned above to see if you can recreate it on the standard Joomla registration page? If so, we can enter it as a bug against Joomla 1.5 + the MTUpgrade plugin. Support for Joomla 1.5 comes to an end in April, so I'm not sure if this will actually be fixed in that release.

Please let us know your test results.

Thanks,
Alex
