Hi
I use your component on joomla 1.5.25
JFBConnect 3.2.2
JFBCLogin 3.2.2
Authentication Plugin 3.2.1
System Plugin 3.2.2
User Plugin 3.2.1
Content Plugin 3.2.2

But even thought the meta information is present on the pages, the description that shows up on facebook is from the global configuration.

Wally9,
Please upgrade to 4.1. The 3.2.2 release is almost a year old, and no longer support. Much of the functionality in it is no longer supported by Facebook either and could easily be the cause of your problem.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Is there a free way to upgrade or do you mean that I have to keep buying subscriptions everytime it doesn´t work?

Wally,
I don't see that you ever had a subscription. Our subscriptions are for different terms, 6 or 12 months. During that period, you're entitled to all updates that are released as well as quick answers in our support area. Facebook does change from time to time, and that requires updates to JFBConnect to make things work normally. We have hundreds of features in JFBConnect, and every once in a while, one of those features breaks. It's never been the case that everything just stopped. So, your Like buttons still work, but the description may not. It's simply a side-effect of integrating with a massive social network, but also gives you access to hundreds of millions of users.

It's possible that the problem you're experiencing actually isn't caused by JFBConnect v3.2 being so old, and we may be able to help you fix it with that version. If you post from the account you subscribed from, we'd gladly help you look into it further. However, if you don't support our development and the time required to provide support by subscribing, we can't help you.

Hope that explains,
Alex

Wally,
Thanks for the information you PM'd. I'll send you back the user account that you originally subscribed with.

With your page information, I was able to look and see what was happening. When you said Share, I thought you actually meant the "Share" button, which was deprecated and hasn't been recommended for use by Facebook in over a year.

The description when a page is Like'd is set using Open Graph tags. You can specify these explicitly using tags like:
{JFBCGraph description=Best description for this page}
If you don't set the tag on your own, JFBConnect will use the meta description for the page. On your homepage, the meta description is the Joomla description. However, on sub-pages, like:
/insights-and-musings/17-musings/138-colors-of-the-50s-a-60s-variation-2.html (I don't want to put the full URL, as I'm not sure you want it public)
The description is correct. I even Like'd that page, and the description showed up in my Facebook wall, not your main Joomla description.

In addition to the description, you can also specify the title and image to use within Facebook. JFBConnect has gotten a lot 'smarter' with Open Graph tags over the last 8 months (since 3.2.2) to better automatically choose the right tags, but they can always be explicitly set as mentioned above. For more information on Open Graph settings in JFBConnect, see:
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/features/...pen-graph-for-joomla

As for new features since 3.2, there's been quite a few, and the below is in no way exhaustive:
  • Page Tab integration so you can add content from your website to your Facebook Page (v3.4)
  • Facebook Requests - Send notifications to all of your users, or let your visitors invite their friends. Each request is fully tracked (v4.1)
  • Facebook Login updates - Facebook changed their authentication scheme, and in v3.x, it will no longer work (v4.0)
For the full, lengthy, changelog, see:
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/changelog

Hope that all helps,
Alex

Hi Thanks for the quick reply (I think you just won a new subscription based on your support alone)

I got surprised when you sayed the description worked for you so I went to test it again and it still doesn´t, and then I understood. It seems that it only works when you click on like while on article view. If I click on like while on blog layout it displays the correct image but the wrong description. Is this fixed as of my version??

Wally,
They should be the same. Each Like button in the blog view has an href specified with it for the actual page (the final article) that is really meant to be Like'd (not the current page). Facebook should then use the information from that final page as the description, title, etc.

With that said, I did notice (about an hour and a half ago), that the articles in the blog had a Like count that didn't match the individual articles if you clicked into them. Now, however, the counts are correct. Additionally, if I like something from the blog, it works. See the image:
File Attachment:

So.. did you just add these Like buttons, or have they been there a while? If new (or even possibly if they're old), the problem seems that Facebook simply hadn't made the connection between the blog view and each article.. or that it hadn't actually scanned the individual articles yet (it can be lazy).

In general though, it *seems* to be working. If that's the case, obviously upgrading to a new JFBC isn't required yet, if the Like button is all you use. However, if you want any of the new features, that will be required.

Hope I'm right and that it is all working now, but if not, let us know!
Alex
