Is it possible to install JFBConnect to allow for an existing JomSocial community user to connect their Facebook account with their JomSocial account to allow for bi-directional status updates between JomSocial and Facebook?

I tried registering for an account on the demo site and then logging into it and linking it to my Facebook account. Upon linking it, I posted a status update in JomSocial and did NOT see it replicate to Facebook. In the event that you'd like to look into this, my username on the Demo site is the same as it is on this forum.

Thank you,
Andrew Bucklin

Andrew,
For existing sites with JomSocial, there's a few things that JFBConnect can do to ease the migration:
* JFBConnect can import any existing Facebook/Joomla connections already created within JomSocial if you're using their Facebook integration. You should only use JomSocial or JFBConnect for Facebook, so this makes transitioning to JFBConnect much simpler and doesn't confuse your users
* JFBConnect also has the ability to automatically map users by their email address, so if a user uses the Login With Facebook button with email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and a Joomla user already has that email address, they will be automatically connected.. no forms to mess with.
* For status updates, we have a plugin for JFBConnect (included with the subscription) called "JomSocial - Post To FB Wall". When enabled, it will automatically post any public comments posted in JomSocial to the user's Facebook wall. Not sure why, but it's not currently installed on our demo site. Something we'll add to our to-do list :)

Hope that all helps. For more information on the benefits of JFBConnect over JomSocial's basic Facebook integration, see the post below:
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/features/...n/jomsocial-facebook

That article doesn't include the new Requests system that was just added in JFBConnect v4.1, which is amazing for promotion!

Let us know if you have any other questions, and good luck,
Alex

Great, thanks!

Also, just noticed the JLinked: LinkedIn plugin. Does that also do bi-directional status updates between LinkedIn and JomSocial (or at least one-way status updates FROM JomSocial TO LinkedIn?

Andrew,
Thanks for subscribing! We hope you enjoy JFBConnect.

JLinked, our LinkedIn integration extension, was just released in November. There are still quite a few limitations on it, some because it's new, some because of LinkedIn's different Terms of Service, and others because we haven't had 3 years to refine it, like JFBConnect. The two biggest are:
* No pushing of status to LinkedIn from JomSocial (JLinked limitation, likely to be fixed in v1.1) - We -do- import status from LinkedIn to JomSocial on registration
* No email address available from LinkedIn (LinkedIn restriction) - That means no automatic user creation since we have to ask the user for their email

Hope that helps, but if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Best of luck,
Alex

OK, maybe I'm missing something; I installed the included plugins (plg_community_jfbcjsactivity_j1.5_v4.0.0.zip & plg_jfbcprofiles_jomsocial_j1.5_v4.1.0.zip) and made sure everything was enabled/published. Logged into an existing Joomla user account, and connected that account with a Facebook profile. Connection is showing up correctly in Components -> JFBConnect -> User Map. However, when that user posts a status message in JomSocial, the message is not replicated on the Facebook profile. Also, once the connection is made, the Facebook Profile information does not replace the JomSocial profile information, which with my current settings, it sounds like it should. Am I missing something? I verified "JomSocial - Post To FB Wall" plugin parameters were set to "Yes" for "Push Status Updates to Facebook"...

P.S. Sorry, wasn't sure if I should start a new thread in support or if you'd rather just move this thread to the support form...

Andrew,
Going to move this to the Joomla 1.5 support area after I post this, so look for it there.

Can you tell me what version of JomSocial you're using? The Activities plugin to post to Facebook from JomSocial was developed and thoroughly tested with JomSocial 2.2. We have done some testing with 2.4, but it's possible we missed something.. or something else just changed that we weren't aware of. We'll be testing though, and let you know what we find... knowing your version will help a lot though.

Thanks,
Alex

The latest version, 2.4.1. If need be, I am more than willing to provide access to our development server so you can have a look at things.

Don't need that access yet. Will be testing on our own dev servers, which we're very comfortable with breaking, first. If we can't duplicate, may ask for access in case it's a specific configuration setting combo of your site.

Will keep you posted, and sorry for the inconvenience,
Alex

Andrew,
We just did some more testing with JS 2.4.0 (my dev site doesn't have 2.4.1, but can't imagine that's the problem). Posting to the wall worked just fine for me when the privacy setting was set to 'public'.

At this point, it's time to ask for those credentials for your dev site and see what's going on with your site. If you could Private Message those to me, that would help a lot.

We'll get you an answer as quick as we can.

Thanks,
Alex
