Ok now with the upgrade to comments 3.2 my comments are forking:

My original article is at: www.lporegon.org/index.php?option=com_co...aw&catid=39:politics

I commented on it... my friend clicked my comment in facebook and arrived at this url:

www.lporegon.org/index.php?option=com_co...45600#fd053f9257f8d4

That URL did not show my comment, but now that he has commented it shows his comment (but not mine) ....

I am sure someone else could comment on his comment and likewise be orphaned?

Either way the comments fork if you traceback through the facebook wall hyperlinks.

Hey I see you testing... the issue happens when you click the URL off the wall post on facebook... it brings you back to a URL whtat has a unique comment id in it:

www.lporegon.org/index.php?option=com_co...aw&catid=39:politics
vs.
www.lporegon.org/index.php?option=com_co...5600#f15ecd8ad842f86
vs
www.lporegon.org/index.php?option=com_co...791138#f687b5f010156

Lar's comment which you see on the second link, is now invisible on the third link (which is the link that is used on FB on his wall post)

I'm not sure, in all honesty. I just responded twice on that page, once as a 'new' comment, the other as a reply to the existing one. I then logged out of Facebook and could see both the posts. I also could see them with a different Facebook user logged in. Can you see them? Also, feel free to delete them.

The new Comments functionality introduced by Facebook in early March, which we now use (it will be required at the end of April) does have threaded comments. They say this is much better, and we'll have to agree because they give no choice to disable. They do mention in their post a few other things to consider:
* Comments marked (or automatically detected) as spam won't be shown
* Comments will show in the order of relevance to the user - which means you'll see your friends' comments first, not necessarily the newest or oldest first.
* Within a fork of comments, my understanding is that all comments will be chronological though, so there will be some order to them to follow the thought process of the comments

For more information on the update, see:
developers.facebook.com/blog/post/472

Also, let us know if you can see the new posts that we made. You may also want to check the Comment Moderation Tool to see if your comments are showing up there. Sometimes, it can take a while to appear there though:

Good luck!

See second comment above... this issue is that URL generated on the facebook post becomes unique each time, so if someone follows that link back they arrive at a new unique URL and start a completely different comment chain (hence it forks)

Ahhhhhhh. Gotcha. I see the problem, I think. Let us look into it a little more. The main issue boils down to us having to report to Facebook what page the comments show up on. We automatically generate this URL, but Facebook is tacking a fb_comment_id onto the URL which then, to Facebook, looks like a whole new page.

This should be easily correctable, but we'll need to test a few things and make sure first. If it's the change I think, it will mean a new version of JFBConnect (3.2.1) but will be a simple, simple upgrade.

We'll keep you posted, and thanks for pointing this out.

Exactly... that unique comment id it is tacking onto the wall post gets everything confused if you are coming into the site from one of your friend's comments.

Are you using the JFBCComment Module or the Content plugin (which automatically adds the comment box to articles)?

We can't reproduce in the Content plugin, but can see how this would happen in the module.. which we should be able to remove that extra query string easily. Just want to make sure we tackle the right problem.. module is better too because we can release that separately :)

Thanks again!

Module ... the rocket-theme I use has so many different content areas I can load modules in this is the quick and sleezy way of adding stuff to all pages.

I understand what you mean. You may want to look into the Content plugin as it (should) do the stuff automatically for you, with a lot of configuration over which articles it will display in as well as being able to show the Like and Comment boxes in blog views with the correct link to the actual article. However, your site is your site, and we give multiple options for a reason.

We'll be looking at releasing an updated Comment Module with this fix tomorrow, most likely. Hope that timeline works for you.

Thanks!

Wes,
Thanks for your feedback, again. We just posted 3.2.2 of the Comments module (included in the JFBConnect Social Modules zip file). Please test this version out and let us know how it goes.

Alex
