Login validation was created by nomad99
Ok, I am either missing something here or completely confused. There is no validation on your login form? If someone enters a wrong username they are not notified in any way? And this is the same in Joomla and other components! I have got to be missing something here...it just can't be an oversight...

We notify users when their username or email address is already in use. This is done with a green checkbox or red 'x' along with a message through an AJAX request. If you're not seeing this, please ensure that there are no Javascript errors on your page, or feel free to post your URL so that we can see the login/registration page and see if we can diagnose the problem.

As for Joomla itself, no, it does not have a built in name checker at the time of filling in the form. It will, however, notify the user after they try to click "Register" and the page reloads if it is in use. 3rd party components like CB, JomSocial, or other components all can do their own thing.

Let us know what you find.

Sorry, I am not talking about the registration form I am talking about the login form. If a user enter an incorrect username on the login form what happens?

You should get a "Username and password do not match or you do not have an account yet." system message. You can see this message on this site, or our demo site sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/demo Just try typing anything into the boxes and hit submit.

If you're not seeing system messages, you're template may not be setup correctly. Try, temporarily, enabling the default Milkway template and see if you see the messages then. If so, you should contact your template provider about the issue.

Ah, its part of the template. The template has to show the system messages. Ok, not the best approach but at least its something. A javascript popup would be better ;)

The system message bit is just how Joomla does it. If you're looking for more of a pop-up way to show system messages, the below post might help you out. I haven't used or tested this, but the guys that did it are great, so I'm pretty confident it works as advertised (and it's free).
