I am trying to grasp the whole Facebook API thing, it is somewhat overwhelming.

I am curious if it is possible to integrate the FBConnect the opposite direction using a FB API - in other words, fb users on my fan site click a tab on my fanpage to login to my site that way?

IS this possible or am I way off base... I have been perusing the API developer section and there is something Im just missing.

any help or suggestion on where to find help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what your asking, but I'll definitely agree the Facebook API can be confusing. Fortunately, it used to be much worse, so they're making improvements!

As for your question, are you asking if they can log into your Fanpage and then be automatically logged into your Joomla site? Unfortunately, no.

You should be able to add plenty of links to your site from your Fanpage. From there, they can log into your site with their Facebook credentials easily, and you can use that information in any of the currently (soon to be expanded) Joomla profile components we support.

If you could explain more your purpose, we might be able to help more. Basically, if you want the user to log into the Fan page, and then be logged into your site, how do they get from your Fan Page to your site? Do you want a "Login Using Facebook" button on your Fan page, that, when clicked, will redirect them to their account on your site?

I don't think that's possible, but once a user does register on your site with their Facebook credentials, then JFBConnect does have a setting to automatically log those users back in when they return. In that case, after the initial registration, if you had a "Go to our site" button your Fan Page, when a user clicks it, they'd go to your site and be auto-logged in. For users that haven't registered yet, you can redirect them to a "Register Now" page with information on how to create their account (basically, click the "Login Using Facebook" button on your Joomla site).

Hope this is sorta clear and helps out. Let us know your specific goals, and we'll try to help get you as close to them as we can!

Thanks For the reply! I see what you're saying. All I was trying to accomplish was have a tab either utilizing the fbml box or other app created by me that basically users that are our friends on fb can click a "connect" button that will basically perform the same function as the fbconnect module does on my site. it authenticates them and creates them as a user and such and yes, possibly either redirect them to my website or open it in another page. I hope that makes a little more sense in what I was trying to do.

I suppose just sending them to our site and having them click the connect button there accomplishes the same thing, but you know these days, you wanna try and make it easy as possible! lol

I know you can utilize the fbml box to put a form and other html just was trying to basically use it to load the fbconnect module (or similar) back to my site. I wasnt really asking for an added feature or anything, I thought maybe someone here maybe had the same idea I did and could point me in the right direction.

Thanks Again!

fbConnect is a invaluable tool and I will be renewing my subscription soon to keep on the all the updates in the future

Great to hear your happy with JFBConnect. It takes a lot of effort to always improve on it, and we have some great features in the pipe.

As for 'less clicks is better', we definitely agree. Thats the whole purpose of the "Facebook Only" type of user, no forms to fill out, just one click and your into the website.

As for the FBML on the fan page, I just don't see a good way to make that work. Joomla expects all forms that are submitted to it to come from it's own domain (for security sake) and Facebook wants it's application code to run on the application site (generally), so it would be pretty tough to get the 2 to work together outside of Joomla.

If you have any suggestions, definitely let us know. We get some great ideas from our users. And if we come up with anything, we'll keep you posted. The next few updates we have planned are meant to really tighten up the user experience in sharing information between the Joomla site and Facebook, whereas up until now, it's been about getting that user to register in the best way the admin wants. There's just a lot more we can do, now that we've moved to Facebook's Graph API.

Thanks again, and good luck!
