No, I wasn't trying to imply that the permissions problem was causing the activation issue, merely that it could have been the cause of the JFTP error (which we couldn't recreate.

The CB activation thing is much more confusing as we can't recreate it. It's very odd that the activate/approved field shows the 'x', but if I go to edit the user, it seems set up correctly. It's like the correct row in the CB tables aren't being created.

I'm going to try again very shortly, and will install NinjaXplorer to see if that File Manager works on the server to help us debug where the failure is coming from.

We'll keep you posted.

Grrr. Sorry to keep coming back with not great information and/or more questions.

I installed NinjaXplorer, which lets me correctly navigate your file system, however, the file I want to edit /components/com_jfbconnect/libraries/communitybuilder.php is only writeable by owner. Can you modify this to editable by group? Hopefully with some quick debugging, I can determine why CB user creation and activation fails.

Finally, the JFTP error I did not see. Are you seeing this with a new user or with a returning user? It's possibly since my CB user isn't being created properly/activated, that I'm just not getting far enough to see the JFTP error.

Thanks

Sorry, I meant to add that yes, I am getting an activation email when I try to create account. The top of the message is:

Benvenuto/a Alex Sourcecoast,
Grazie per esserti registrato su Napolimagazine.net.
Per completare la registrazione devi confermare il tuo indirizzo di posta cliccando il seguente link:

The activation link exists, but the confirmcode in the link is blank. The link shouldn't be blank either way, but we try to avoid the whole email with the skip activation feature. Obviously, there's something wrong, but I don't know what it is. If we can get in to edit that file and debug, that should help. If you know of any customizations or specific CB or Joomla plugins you have installed that could affect the registration flow, please let us know!

Nope. Still can't edit that file. Any other ways I can get access. I don't want to ask you to make it 777, but that is an option. The other is to create an FTP account I could use. I'm up for anything. Would really like to determine the cause.

Thanks again.

Alright, we got the data we needed to hopefully start recreating the issue better here. No solution yet, but you can re-permission the file correctly. We'll be investigating more and let you know when we have something else to try.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

We hate that there's 2 outstanding issues for you (the plugins thread and the JFTP and activation issue in this thread).

The JFTP issue we can't really focus on until we figure out the activation problem. The data we collected from your site the other day helped, but unfortunately, it didn't point to any reason why activation is still being attempted on your site. We're unsure exactly how to proceed from here. Ideally, we'd have a copy of your site to play with and really debug.

Is there any way you can create a backup/development version of your site that we can modify more? We don't want to risk changes on your live site, but to get to the bottom of this, we may need to make temporary changes to CB and other areas to narrow down the cause.

Please let us know how you'd like us to proceed. You are the only user with the CB activation issue. Rodster started this thread about the JFTP issue, but I haven't heard if that's a continuing problem on his site.
