Hello,
First off, I am not sure if one needs to click on Facebook Connect and then let the system set up an entry in the users database. That's how I think I have it setup. I asked someone to try this and the clicked on Connect with Facebook, and that seemed to go ok. But they weren't able to come back and login with their facebook username/pw. I see on your site when I click on the connect button, it logs me and the login box goes away.
I selected to have their names added to the database, option 1 which gives maximum flexibility. The don't have to register for an account should they? The facebook connection should work fine.
It's not working. I think anyone helping me will need my developer id on facebook, or access as developer to the application and an account on my site with Administrative privileges. Please let me know who to give this informaiton to. Again, yes, I'm a paid subscriber.
Please help me make this work.
Also, note that the Invite feature does not work at all. I'm not seeing my friends when I login. I can login because I already had an account before I installed this but new users cannot even login. Please help.

Thank you for being a subscriber. It's called out under your name for us, and everyone, to see your support.

Now, for your support.. Starting with the Invite module. If you aren't properly logged in through JFBConnect (both through Facebook and the associated Joomla account), that could easily explain why it's not showing properly. So, moving on to why it might not be working at all... The invite module only works if you're logged in with Facebook as well, not just with a Joomla account. Not sure what you mean when you say you can test because "you already had an account".

I'm assuming you've fully been through the JFBConnect Configuration Guide. If not, please go completely through that:
www.sourcecoast.com/extensions/jfbconnect/configuration-guide

To note in particular, please verify the following:
  • Both the JFBC Authentication and User plugins are enabled
  • The User plugin is ordered AFTER the Joomla User plugin
  • Your FB Connect URL (setup in the FB Developer area) is the exact same as your site's page, including the www or not, depending on how you have your page set up.

After that, please check the Usermap area of JFBConnect administrator area and see if any rows have been created. There should be one for each user including their FB Id and the associated Joomla user. If this isn't being created, let us know. That's generally a configuration error.

To answer some of your other questions:
No, a user doesn't have to create an account separately. It's part of the registration process (this can be seen on the demo site). After they login the first time with FB credentials, they're asked to create their account (username, email, password) or to associate their FB account with an already existing Joomla account. This is the behavior when "Create New Users" is set to 'yes'.

Hope this helps, and let us know any errors or issues that continue to crop up and we'll help you get up and running.

Ok, yes, I followed all those steps. I definitely am logged into both Joomla and facebook. I don't have any users in the User Map.
Also, for some reason, the plug-in that I have for Facebook like and share, as well as comments, disappears as soon as I enable the module for login on my site. I did setup an account for you and sent you details about that. You'll have to look in there to see. I have it setup here:
wsmagazine.net/zine/
I'm going to mainly use wordsaladpoetrymagazine.com
but we can use the first link, just add administrator after zine to get into the admin area. I really hate to have paid for the facebook like and share and only see that not work when this module is enabled. That is weird. Do you need to be added as a developer to check on this? I guess there isn't much to look at, though. I have the site set as wsmagazine.net/zine/ where my joomla is installed.

There isn't much to look at. Can you try disabling the Like and Share modules to test if JFBConnect works properly? For now, there may be a conflict between these modules. That will help us determine if there's anything we can do right now.

With the upcoming release of JFBConnect 3.0, modules for Like and Share will be included in the package, so you won't have any compatibility issues at that point. That should be by the end of this month or early next month.

Hello,
I don't know if I should reply here or on the forum. I disabled the other plug-ins and it didn't change things. I tried to connect again and it had no effect. I still have no one in the User Map and my Invite box just tells me to login.
I can't post the information for you to login to my joomla site and see all this but I did email it. So, perhaps you can have a look. I don't know what the deal is.
Bruce
By the way, what forum software do you use here. I like how it includes email notices when there is a post.

Here's always best, as it allows others to see the eventual resolution in case they run into similar issues.

I just tried to log into the wsmagazine.net/zine/ site, but the password automatically emailed from Joomla doesn't work. Can you try logging in with those credentials? Maybe I'm crazy. I haven't tried on the other site yet because I can't see the JFBCLogin module enabled, so I'd rather work with what looks to be the main test site. If I'm incorrect, let me know.

As for the forum software, we use Agora from jVitals . It's probably the best Joomla integrated solution, but not as powerful as something like a bridged PHP3 solution, which we've used on other sites. The advantages of it being native to Joomla are hugely beneficial for our site here though. Compared to Kunena, it's a dream for making modifications as the code is much cleaner. NinjaBoard is the other up-and-comer that I'd recommend if you're looking for good forum software.

Thanks for resending the credentials. I logged into the /zine/ site. The user plugin was not ordered correctly, as indicated a few posts above to check. I fixed that by putting it in order 1 and left the Joomla user plugin at order 0. Additionally, on the JFBConnect administration page, the following error is in red:

Application Name: Word Salad Connect

Connect URL: wsmagazine.net/
We suggest updating your Connect URL to: wsmagazine.net/zine/
You can do this by visiting: Facebook Developers
Once there, select your application, click Edit Settings, and change the Connect URL in the Connect section

Please follow the instructions there, as you'll need to update your FB Connect application's Connect URL to what it suggests above.

Both of these errors individually could cause the errors your seeing. Please update the Connect URL and test again. We'd recommend still leaving the other FB modules disabled just to ensure there isn't a conflict there.

How do I send a private message with login details? I need you to check it out from my site. I setup an account for you. I've followed all the steps exactly and precisely and have tried this on a few sites. So, I must be doing something wrong. I need you to login with the login details I setup for you. I don't know what email to use to send you the details. I think I just found the emails that I need for you. Ok, I'll send the detials now.

I apologize that I had overlooked your response here. I don't mean to be so much trouble. I think this is a valuable took to have for my site and would especially enjoy the ability to invite others to join.

So the JFBConnect User plug in needs to be in position 0 and the user-joomla needs to be in position 1. I wonder why that is.
I did check with the application and it is setup with the correct url in the Connect tab and the Canvas tag on the application on facebook. Unfortunately, it is not connecting. I have no names listed in the User Map. I know that a couple people, including myself, did click on Connect with Facebook. So, now what? I hope you can figure something out. :-)

I notice on your site I just login and it doesn't ask for any information. You probably have it set to No for create new joomla users.
Second question: why would the field mapping from the component JFBConnect to Community Builder only show three fields for the first, middle and last name. No other fields are showing.
Lastly, how would you set things up like this for registering when one has Community Builder. Would you offer a short quick registration to the site and invite them to come back later to update their profile?
Thanks,
Bruce

Hello,
I did get this to work on a different joomla installation. I wonder if the problem might be because I had an older copy of Joomla? I was using Joomla 1.5.8 So, I'm trying to upgrade to joomla 1.5.20 and see if that helps.
I don't know what else to do.
Please advice and help,
Bruce
