Joomla!® Migration

Why Migrate From Joomla!® 1.0 To 1.5?

  • The Joomla!® team is going to stop supporting the 1.0 version of Joomla!® starting on July 22, 2009.  For more information, read An Old Friend Comes of Age.
  • Joomla!® 1.5 is easier to use and adds more functionality.  Take a look at the demo on the Joomla!® site and I'm sure you'll like what you see.
  • Take advantage of all the wonderful Joomla!® 1.5 extensions that you always have to pass up when looking for new functionality.

What Is Involved With Migrating?

  • First, we take a backup of the current files and database from your live site.
  • We then create a Joomla!® 1.5 site on our server and use migration tools to import your data (articles, menus, etc).
  • The next step is to install any extensions you were using on your old site.  It's best if we upgrade to the latest (hopefully J1.5) versions.
  • We then either find a 1.5 version of your template or use your existing template with some minor changes.
  • Once all of this is done, we need your help to review the new site and make sure everything looks great.
  • The final step is to copy your new Joomla!® 1.5 site from our server back to yours.
  • Once everything is ready, we can flip a switch and your new Joomla!® 1.5 site will be live.

How Long Does A Migration Take?

The time a migration will take depends on the complexity of the site.  A simple Joomla!® 1.0 site without any complex extensions or customizations will take less than a day to migrate.  A site with complex extensions (e-commerce, SEF, community, directory listings, etc) could take 2-3 days depending on the amount of extensions.

How Much Does A Migration Cost?

Our rates are $125/hour and $750/day.  After investigating the complexity of your site, we will be able to give you a good estimate on the amount of time it will take to perform the migration.
