Hi

I have a 2.5 site that is currently using ITPFloatingShare

I want to install JFBConnect, however I don't want to lose the "likes" for each page that the site already has generated.

Is this possible, and how do I go about it?

Any help appreciated.

Likes are tied to a specific URL on your site. Hopefully the ITP module and JFBConnect will create the same URLs for the page (generally just the URL of the current page). JFBConnect does have some extra logic to try to strip some extra variables from the URL (like Google analytics parameters and such).. but with luck, it should just work.

Obviously, the only way to know is to test. With our module you can always force the URL to something else, if necessary, so that the count will remain. It's not ideal though as you'd have to do that on individual pages.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex

thanks alzander, however I am now having trouble just installing the extension...

I purchased jfbconnect_j2.5_v4.3.4 and now trying to install in Joomla 2.5.19 but keep getting an error message when both uploading package file or installing from directory. I have unzipped the original package download first and I'm trying to upload/install the com_jfbconnect_j2.5_v4.3.4.zip file.

Is this version now too old to install on J2.5.19 or is it some other problem?

I'm honestly not sure if 4.3.4 works with Joomla 2.5.19. At the time of 4.3.4's release (in January 2013), the latest release of Joomla was 2.5.8. There have been many changes in Joomla since then, though none that I know of that would have broken compatibility with JFBConnect v4.3.4.

Unfortunately, we simply don't test with releases that are more than a year old. The most recent version of JFBConnect is 6.0.4, which is 2 major versions beyond the release you're trying to use. That definitely works with 2.5.19 as we test the most recent releases for compatibility with each new Joomla release.

Sorry I can't be more specific as to compatibility. JFBConnect has many releases to keep up compatibility with both Joomla and the social networks we integrate with. Both change frequently, so it's always recommended to be using the latest releases.

I hope that helps,
Alex
