Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Hey Alex,

Hope you have a Merry Xmas!

So, I am having an issue with the Facebook invite module.  When I click the link on my site, a new page loads with the facebook Module embedded in an article.  My facebook friends appear...I click who I want to invite...I then click "Send Invitation".  A pop up window appears as a Preview Screen of the message with the option to cancel or send.  This is where things go wrong.  That pop up is cut off (see attached image).

I enabled Enabled Automatic Resizing, but it didn't help.  I assume that is just for the module.

So, is there a way to just move the popup 200 pixels to the left?  Or resize it?

Thanks  current/smile

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

I should mention that I have review the steps here: http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/d … jfbcinvite

I followed each of them except number 3) Update any div's that contain the JFBCInvite module to have an "overflow: visible" CSS attribute.

I am unsure what to do there.  I have the module set to load within an article with the command {module 128}.  The code contains no DIVs.

Thanks  current/smile

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Ryan,
Sorry for the delayed response.

There's no way to move that popup. The JFBCInvite module is using the 'old' style of invitations from Facebook, and that popup is frankly broken. There are ways to change the CSS to make the popup 'overflow' into the sidebar. If you send me the link to the page you have JFBCInvite module on, we can likely help.

With that said... JFBConnect 4.1 (to be released at the end of this week) will use the new Requests system of Facebook. It uses a text link or image that a user can click and a 'real' popup will come up for the user to select their friends. Additionally, you can send invitations to your users from the admin area. Even better, tracking of who's sent request and who's acted on them is included. There will also be a {JFBCRequest ..} tag you can use to easily add it to your site.

So, all around, it's a much better solution. If you can wait a few days, I'd recommend you do. We're very excited for the new system.. and very excited to not have to deal with overflow issues too much anymore from the JFBCInvite module current/big_smile

One caveat with all the above is that Facebook's new request system uses the Facebook Canvas, and that requires that you have an SSL certificate. Setting up the canvas is easy.. the SSL is under $20/year.. so shouldn't be overly burdensome, but can still be inconvenient. Just making sure you know.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Hey alex,

That sounds great.  I'll anxiously await the update  current/smile

Do I need to do anything in preparation for the SSL?  Or will all ythat be handled directly through JFBConnect?

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

No real preparation. Just need the SSL installed on your server so that https works and the Facebook Canvas stuff working within JFBConnect. We have guides for that (which we'll be updating more as this will be a common support theme with Requests). Certainly when 4.1 is out, if you run into issues, we'll be here to help current/smile

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Hey Alex,

I installed JFBConnect 4.1, but I'm not seeing what you were talking about with the new JFBCInvite module.  Actually, I must be tired, because I'm not seeing the JFBCInvite module in the JFBConnect 4.1 package.  Is it there?  I only have JFBCInvite module 4.0 installed.

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

The JFBCInvite module has been replaced by JFBCRequests. We didn't want to add confusion by using the same module. The old JFBCInvite module should also still work until June 30th next year (when Facebook removes support for it), but we'll no longer be including it with the package.

For information on the new Requests features, see our configuration guide (which is being created right now, and should be complete tomorrow):
http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/d … k-requests

Additionally, you can check out the full JFBC v4.1 changelog below:
http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/changelog

Hope that helps explain,
Alex

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Romulo,
Sure, our demo site has an example:

Hope that helps, but if you have any questions, let us know. Please post a new thread with any questions though, as it likely won't be related to this topic.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Hey Alex,

I finally went ahead and got setup for SSL through rapidssl.  I'm pretty sure I followed the steps on your site, but I', still having two issues.

1.   I see that the https: is red, and has a line through it.  Any idea why that would be happening?
2.  The popup, mentioned above, for invites, is still cut off.  I thought you said the new version (4.1) would have fixed it...if I had ssl...or maybe I'm combining multiple thoughts/answers from you by accident...memory is a bitch sometimes  current/wink

Re: Facebook invite "Preview Invitation" cut off

Ryan,
The JFBCInvite module is no longer included in JFBConnect v4.1. Instead, you should move to the "Requests" module and configuration in this release. You can read more about how to setup Requests:
http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/d … k-requests

You can see a demo of Requests:
http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/d … est-module

As for the red SSL, your page looks fine. The reason it's red is because some images on your site are being loaded without using the https. That's not an issue for our needs though as the main page HTML is being delivered over a secure connection, and that's all Facebook cares about.. so that shouldn't cause you any problems.

Hope that explains. The new Requests feature is a lot more powerful than the old JFBCInvite module, but can be tedious to setup. We're working on the documentation and some changes to help streamline the process.

Hope that helps,
Alex
