SourceCoast Roadmap to Joomla 3.0 and Discontinuation of J1.5 Versions

Joomla!

Joomla 3.0 is coming in late September, and we've already heard a few users asking about when JFBConnect, the Facebook for Joomla extension, and JLinked, LinkedIn for Joomla, will support the newest release of our favorite CMS! As with all Joomla releases, we completely plan to support J3.0. At the same time, Joomla 1.5, while well loved, will be unsupported by Joomla.org once J3.0 is available. Due to the overwhelming transition to Joomla 2.5, we will be discontinuing development and support for the J1.5 series shortly.

At SourceCoast, we're always planning ahead and trying to determine the best course of action for our extensions and our users. Below is a quick outline of upcoming versions for both JFBConnect and JLinked as well as our strategy for Joomla 1.5, 2.5, and 3.x development.

JFBConnect

Version 4.3 - Release Date: Early Q42012

This release of our popular Facebook for Joomla integration extension will add support for Open Graph actions. With this release, you'll easily be able to add 'stories' to a user's Facebook timline, like "John read Using Joomla 3.0" or "Bob purchased a new pair of shoes". These actions will be fully configurable, and work with many 3rd party extensions.

Supported Joomla Versions: J1.5 and J2.5

Version 5.0 - Release Date: Late Q42012 / Early 2013

This release will fully support Joomla v3.0 and will overhaul some of the underlying systems within JFBConnect as well as completely replace the administration area. It's anticipated to fully utilize the new Bootstrap template system in both Joomla 3.0 and 2.5.

Supported Joomla Versions: J2.5 and J3.x. Joomla 1.5 will not be supported with this release.

JLinked

Version 1.3 - Release Date: August 27th, 2012

JLinked finally gains email import support! LinkedIn recently added the ability to import a user's email address, and this newest release allows you to automically populate that in a user's profile. Multiple other registration enhancements have been made for an even smoother experience.

Supported Joomla Versions: J1.5 and J2.5

Version 2.0 - Release Date: Late Q42012 / Early 2013

With email import support available, this release of JLinked will allow for the automatic user creation abilities already present in JFBConnect. With one click, a user will be able to register, have their account created immediately, and log them in. All without any forms!

This release will fully support Joomla v3.0 and will have a new administration area. It's anticipated to fully utilize the new Bootstrap template system in both Joomla 3.0 and 2.5.

Supported Joomla Versions: J2.5 and J3.x. Joomla 1.5 will not be supported with this release.

Joomla Transition

All of our subscriptions will continue to be for all Joomla versions. We do not charge extra for each Joomla version. If you have a Facebook or LinkedIn subscription now, and it's active when the v3.0 compatible release is available, you will be able to upgrade immediately.

As noted above, by the end of this year, no new Joomla 1.5 major releases of JFBConnect or JLinked will be made. If a security issue is found in our Joomla 1.5 releases, we will supply an update through the first half of 2013.

Tehcnical support for Joomla 1.5 will be provided to all active subscribers through the first half of 2013.
